Canyonlands Canine Association Summer Show-June 16th, 2023

Cheers to Lottie and another success round in the showing ring! On June 16th we entered just one day of showing at the local UKC show and she blew us away by taking home yet another first place in the gun dog group earning herself a 1/2 of a leg towards her Grand Championship. We are very pleased with her improvements through showing, her desire to "show off" in the ring, and her free stacking has come such a long ways. We look forward to more shows and seeing just what more she can surprise us with.

Canyonlands Canine Association Spring Show-March 17-19th, 2023

A big "Wahoo!" for Lottie's successful weekend at the spring UKC conformation show. Lottie not only took Best of Class, Sex, and Breed, but she also won 1st in the Gun dog group and then went on to finish her championship by taking home a Reserve Best In Show. A huge THANK YOU to not only our friend who handled her during breed, but also to our judge, Mr. Keith Kozakiewicz, who selected our girl. Lottie will now be working towards her grand and I'm so excited to see how she progresses.

Not all who participate in conformation believe that UKC holds a lot of ground in their judgements, but what I really appreciate about UKC is that it's given us an opportunity to learn by doing without the pressure that the AKC rings bring. I'm extremely grateful for all of the advice, the tips, the tricks, the confidence, and the practice that we have received over the last year and a half while participating in the UKC shows. I also have to give a big thanks to the club and the members who run the whole show. Between the organizers and the participants you can't find a better place to enter the show ring.

Canyonlands Canine Association Winter Show-November 11-13th, 2022

Lottie entered into a full weekend of UKC conformation shows. She showed once on Friday and twice on Saturday and Sunday. Lottie took Best of Class, Best of Sex, and Best of Breed all five shows. On Saturday Mrs. Michelle Blackowl-Chavez placed Lottie 4th in group which allows her to be one step closer to earning her UKC championship title. Overall, Lottie has earned enough points and two of the three needed wins in order to fulfill the title requirements.

We took a friends showing advice and change our handling style a slight bit. It's common to see handlers looking at their dog the entire time and in return their dog learns to look at them. At the advice of a friend and longtime exhibitor, she advised we try to not look at each other and instead focus on our path of travel more. When we practiced this prior to the show we saw a noticeable difference, and when we did this during the show Lottie was able to show her true gait and movement without the restriction of her head and neck being focused up and to the right on me. When you study the movement of dogs and how this little details affects their body you begin to see that they will start to drop that left shoulder and tense up their right side more to help compensate for the turning of the head and neck.

Eastern Idaho Spring Classic-June 16th-19th, 2022

 Host by the

Eagle Rock Kennel Club & Pocatello Kennel Club

Dog Mom and Lottie spent the weekend with all of their friends up in Pocatello Idaho for the Eastern Idaho Spring Classic. We enjoy ring times on Friday through Sunday and place Best of Sex and Best of Opposite each day. During our puppy match on Saturday evening we place first. The weather during this show was a struggle for us. Between the colder temps, the wild wind coming through and then hot spells we really had a run for our money. We learned a lot this trip and took some time to reflect on what we can do to be better and work harder as a team. We caught up with some new Idaho friends from the breed and we were so excited to hear of all the opportunities they have experienced over the years. We were granted sponsorship from a couple of our Weim friends who are part of the parent club which meant we could actually submit our application and begin to further our journey into the breed.

We had a great time spending the weekend with our dog mom friends and of course we laughed, ate a bunch of junk food, and enjoyed talking all things dogs. As someone who is new into the dog sporting world its been a blast being surrounded by like minded people who have been a huge support system for us. They answer all of our questions, laugh at our terrible jokes, they encourage and help provide pointers for improvement. They really have been such a blessing for us throughout this entire journey and we're so grateful for them.

We entered the Beehive Cluster in South Jordan, UT from May 6th-8th. The Utah Valley Kennel Club hosted Friday's show and Intermountain Kennel Club hosted Saturday and Sunday. Lottie won Best of Class, Winners Bitch, Best of Opposite, and Owner Handled Best of Breed. Sunday we stayed for the NOHS group and had a great go around in the ring. We didn't place, but it was our first time being able to compete in Group under the National Owner Handled Series. We also earned ourselves 15 points in the NOHS category.

Lizard Butte-April 8th-10th, 2022

 Hosted by the

Lizard Butte Kennel Club

Hurray for a great weekend at our very first AKC show! We registered for the Puppy 9-12mo. class for all three days of the show. Each day Lottie took home Best of Class and earned Reserve Winners Bitch. It was so much fun being able to travel with our Irish Wolfhound friends. They helped guide us each day to the right ring, helped us understand the order of classes and dogs being called into the ring, and we got to watch as one of our friends won Best of Breed for the Scottish Deerhounds and compete in the group round. Lottie was a little bit shy with the judge and struggled to keep her head up while moving around the ring, but the judges seemed to like her and her sweet personality.

Canyonlands Canine Association Spring Show-March 20th-21st, 2022

Hosted by the

Canyonlands Canine Association

We celebrated another great dog show weekend at the UKC Conformation show. Lottie was entered into 4 shows over the weekend and won Best of Class, Best of Sex, and Best of Breed for all 4 shows. She then progressed to the Gun Dog Group competition where she performed amazing! She didn't place, but we took the opportunity to practice our stacks, hold our focus while evaluated, and practiced keeping our movements forwards and straight to really allow thorough examination from the judges. Lottie started her first heat cycle Saturday morning so we were thrown quite the curve ball and was a little more sensitive to noises, touch, and movement. Most of her stacks were as good as they could be given she rounded her back out of discomfort and nerves. We've put together some video recaps of her performance. You can visit our YouTube video to watch her performances.

Canyonlands Canine Association Winter Show-November 19th-21st, 2021

We entered our very first conformation show over the weekend. We ended up competing in 5 shows over a span of 3 days. She was the only Weimaraner so she automatically took Best in Class, Best of Sex, and Best of Breed all weekend. Her second show, Saturday morning, she took 4th in Group. I am so proud of this young little pup. We started taking a conformation course at about 11/12 weeks old to help us really start her off in the right direction. Not to mention dog mom has never shown a dog before so it was just as much training for Lottie as it was mom. We love having the opportunity to share the weekend with some amazing dog friends who truly know what it means to support one another no matter what the outcomes are. The dogs had fun, the ladies had fun, and I think the spouses even had fun....Well maybe just a little fun, but I know we all loved having them there to support us on the sidelines. Lottie really seemed to enjoy the show. She actually had a bit more confidence and excitement then she had when practicing in our training class. It was fun and exciting to even see a few of our classmates at the show and even our confirmation instructor ended up making it out there as well. Lottie sure grew up from the little puppy she was when we first started practicing until this show where she had just barely, by one week, turned 6 months. The end result was 75 points and a major win towards her Championship title with the United Kennel Club. We are excited to enter her into the spring events with the same club in hopes that she can compete against another Weimar or take a placement in the Gun Dog group. All of her judges complimented her on how beautiful she already looks as just a 6 month old puppy. They all expressed how impressed they were surrounding her behavior, her looks, and encouraged us to come back as she aged so they could see her mature. It was such a fun weekend full of firsts and full of learning. We are so grateful to have the friends and support we do and can't wait for more.
