Canyonlands Canine Association Spring Show-March 20th-21st, 2022

Hosted by the

Canyonlands Canine Association

We celebrated another great dog show weekend at the UKC Conformation show. Lottie was entered into 4 shows over the weekend and won Best of Class, Best of Sex, and Best of Breed for all 4 shows. She then progressed to the Gun Dog Group competition where she performed amazing! She didn't place, but we took the opportunity to practice our stacks, hold our focus while evaluated, and practiced keeping our movements forwards and straight to really allow thorough examination from the judges. Lottie started her first heat cycle Saturday morning so we were thrown quite the curve ball and was a little more sensitive to noises, touch, and movement. Most of her stacks were as good as they could be given she rounded her back out of discomfort and nerves. We've put together some video recaps of her performance. You can visit our YouTube video to watch her performances.

Bird Training Day- February 19th, 2022

A buddy of ours invited us out to a Hunt's For The Brave Pheasant Hunt in Mosida, Utah. He put a couple pheasant hens on hold for us so we could give Lottie an opportunity to get on some birds and see how she would react to gun fire. I've been a little hesitant to see how she'd do with the gun since she can be sensitive to large and loud vehicles when driving by, but man did she not flinch one bit. We took her out to get some warm up in and get her moving around the field where she found a rooster and locked right up on him. We watched as she held point and we moved close enough for what could have been a shot had we unloaded the gun from the truck. Once our buddy joined us we planted one in a nearby bush without her seeing and then helped slightly guide her towards the bird. Once she found the bird, the natural prey drive kicked in and we fired a round out and away from her. Since she didn't even bat an eyelash we planted the second bird and again turned her towards the direction of the pheasant. This time we planned to shoot over her if given the opportunity. She quickly found the bird and flushed it up for a shot. She was a freaking rockstar and located the bird and brought it right back to hand all while strutting her stuff because she was so proud of her accomplishment. Seeing a bird dog work is amazing. Having your very own bird dog work is absolutely breath taking. I am so excited to see how this girl does as we pursue more trainings.
